Can you add CBD Oil to any Drink?

You’ve probably seen people adding CBD oil to their drinks all over social media– from green smoothies to coffee or even cocktails, CBD is becoming a popular ingredient in the wellness space. And for good reason!

CBD, or cannabidiol, is known to improve your well-being and help you feel more balanced in life. There are many different ways to take CBD, and adding CBD oil to your drink is a great way to enjoy its benefits! It’s easy, convenient for on the go, and may help hide any unpleasant tastes.

So how do you add CBD oil to your drink?

You simply add a few drops of CBD oil (your usual dosage) to any drink and mix it well. Of course, some drinks work better with CBD than others, so keep reading to learn more!

Can you add CBD Oil to hot or cold drinks?

Yes, you can add CBD oil to hot and cold drinks and it won’t impact its effects. As a rule of thumb, if the temperature is safe for you to drink, it’s safe for CBD.

If you want to add CBD oil to your morning tea or coffee, just wait until it’s finished brewing. Adding CBD oil to boiling water might cause some of it to evaporate and lose its effects.

It’s always a good idea to add CBD oil to your drink after you’ve finished preparing it. This helps the CBD oil blend with all other ingredients to avoid having oily bubbles in your drink.

You can also add CBD oil to cold drinks. Just keep in mind that freezing temperatures can cause CBD oil to thicken and not mix with other ingredients.

Will CBD Oil affect the taste of your drink?

If you’ve ever put a drop of CBD oil under your tongue, you’ll understand why most people avoid it. CBD oil can have a strong earthy taste, and the mouthfeel of the oil doesn’t help either.

While adding CBD oil to your drink is a great way to hide its taste, it may just end up ruining your drink if you don’t have the right CBD.

The taste and feel of CBD oil depend on a lot of things. Full-spectrum CBD tends to have a stronger taste as it contains more plant compounds, while isolated CBD has a lighter taste and mouthfeel. Also, the more refined CBD oil is, the less noticeable its taste will be.

CBD in Different Types of Drinks

CBD + Coffee

One of the oldest and most beloved combinations is that of cannabis and coffee. Or in this case, CBD and coffee, which still has many of the same benefits. Coffee is energising and uplifting, while CBD is more calming and grounding. Together, they balance each other out and create the perfect pairing!

It’s even believed that CBD may help soothe any caffeine-induced headaches and jitters. Starting your day with this iconic duo can help you stay focused and productive, without any of the stress.

CBD + Tea

Tea is already a calming drink, and CBD merely enhances that. Since CBD supports your natural circadian rhythm, you can have it with your tea in the morning to feel more alert or before bed to help you sleep. If your tea contains caffeine, CBD may also help bring a balance to your buzz and reduce any unwanted side effects.

CBD + Alcohol

You can spot CBD cocktails in most bars nowadays, but is it safe? This might sound like good fun, but it’s actually one of the riskier combos with CBD.

While some believe CBD may help reduce nausea from drinking, there’s no research to back it up. A study from the 70s suggests CBD may lower blood alcohol levels, but there haven’t been any studies on it since. Most people just report feeling sleepy after adding CBD to their drinks, which could be due to CBD amplifying the effects of alcohol. You should always take extra caution when mixing alcohol with anything, and CBD is no exception!

CBD + Smoothies

A popular and fun way to take CBD is with a refreshing smoothie. Its flavours and texture may help hide the oily taste, and CBD gives your smoothie an extra boost in vitamins! Adding CBD to your smoothie may also help your body absorb more CBD as you’re not digesting it on an empty stomach. Just be sure you add CBD oil after you’ve prepared your smoothie so none of it goes to waste.

Benefits of adding CBD to your drinks

Many people use CBD to help them feel more calm, focused, and grounded throughout the day.

CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate several vital body functions. Our body produces cannabinoids that help run this system, but sometimes we don’t produce enough. CBD, which is a plant-derived cannabinoid, can support our endocannabinoid system and help restore balance to the body.

Adding CBD oil to your drink can be a great way to set the tone for the day.

It can help you feel more energised and relaxed, improving your workflow and creativity throughout the day. Many people find CBD helps reduce stress and anxiety, and studies show CBD is also effective at relieving aches and pains. By influencing adenosine, a chemical in our body that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, CBD may also promote better sleep to leave you feeling well-rested the next day.

How effective is adding CBD into your drink?

Adding CBD oil into your drink is still effective, but less so than when taking it sublingually.

When taking CBD oil sublingually, you put a few drops under your tongue and hold it there for a minute. It quickly gets absorbed by the capillaries under your tongue and directly enters your bloodstream, where it can take effect.

When you add CBD oil into a drink, your body will break it down in digestion. This causes some of the CBD to go to waste, reducing its potency and bioavailability. Only a fraction of the CBD you’ve consumed actually reaches your bloodstream and can take effect. It also takes much longer for the CBD to kick in when ingesting it, as it’s harder for your body to absorb.

So while you can add CBD oil to any drink, you’ll be wasting a lot of money and product in doing so. But don’t worry, there’s an easy solution for this: Water-soluble CBD.

Water-soluble CBD vs. CBD Oil

As the name suggests, CBD oil is oil-based. This means it’s mixed with some kind of carrier oil, most commonly MCT oil. Since oil and water don’t mix, it makes it difficult for our body (which is more than 50% water) to absorb CBD oil. While CBD oil works pretty well when taken sublingually, most of it gets destroyed when passing through your stomach and liver.

It’s why vitamins and supplements are made to be water-soluble. It helps them have a greater effect with less product going to waste. We’re also seeing CBD brands pick up on this and making water-soluble CBD, which means you get more for less.

Water-soluble CBD particles are much smaller in size than regular CBD particles. This makes it easier for them to mix with the water in our bloodstream and take effect. Since water-soluble CBD isn’t mixed with a carrier oil, it makes a smaller amount much more potent than regular CBD oil.

Although the process of making water-soluble CBD is much more complicated, it’s well worth it.

By using water-soluble CBD, your body absorbs more CBD, making it 5x more effective than regular CBD oil. You only need to add a small amount to your drink which helps your bottle last for much longer. Put simply, a little goes a long way.
