???? What is a washed coffee? ☕️
A washed coffee has been processed using the ‘wet’ or ‘washed’ method. Unlike a natural coffee, where the fruit surrounding the bean is removed after drying, the ‘wet’ process uses water to wash the beans from their fruit and mucilage before they are dried.
The process is known to produce particularly clean-flavoured coffees, allowing the intrinsic flavours of the bean itself (and not the fruit) to flourish. While the process may only benefit coffees with great flavour profiles, it allows a certain clean acidity to prevail ☕️
The washing process requires a lot of skill, dedicated machinery and water, but some of the world’s finest coffees are created using it – including our latest, small batch of Speciality CBD Coffee.
